SKIPPER
Pedro Lopez
Pedro Lopez, the eighth manager in
franchise history, begins his third year
at the helm for the Isotopes. It’s his 昀椀fth
year with the club and third different
role with Albuquerque after serving as
Albuquerque’s hitting coach in 2021 and
bench coach in 2022.
The Vega Baja, Puerto Rico, native is
entering his 21st year as a Minor League
manager and fourth at the Triple-A level
(2017, Las Vegas) after stints in the Texas
Rangers (2001-05, 2007) and New York
Mets (2011-19) farm systems. Over his
21 seasons at the helm, Lopez has a
1,105-1,151 overall record and appeared
in seven playoffs—including winning the
Double-A Eastern League Championship
in 2014 with the Binghamton Mets. He
won his 1,000th game as a manager June
4, 2023, in a 7-1 victory over Salt Lake.
After retiring as a player following the 2000
season, Lopez began his coaching career
as a bench coach for the Savannah Sand
Gnats. However, he took over as interim
manager in May and was later named the

permanent manager on June 21. He
also served as the hitting coach for
the Bakers昀椀eld Blaze in 2006.

Orientales, also of the Dominican
League, for three seasons.
After managing the 2019 Single-A
Columbia Fire昀氀ies, Lopez joined
the Colorado Rockies organization
and was slated to serve as the
development supervisor for the
Grand Junction Rockies prior to
the cancellation of the 2020 season
because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In 2021, he also changed roles. Prior
to being named Isotopes hitting
coach, he was named development
supervisor for High-A Spokane.
He also managed the 2011 Peoria
Javelinas of the Arizona Fall League.
Lopez also has extensive experience
coaching and managing in the
Winter Leagues. He has managed
six seasons between the Roberto
Clemente Pro Baseball League,
Venezuelan League and Dominican
League. During the 2017-18 season,
Lopez was named Manager of the
Year for the Gigantes del Cibao of the
Dominican League. He has served

As a player, Lopez was drafted in
the 21st round by San Diego in the
1988 MLB First-Year Player Draft
out of Arizona Western College
(Yuma, AZ). He played 13 Minor
League seasons mainly as a
catcher and a 昀椀rst baseman with
the Padres, Milwaukee Brewers and
Houston Astros, reaching Triple-A
on four occasions. In 909 Minor
League games, Lopez slashed
.247/.317/.359.
Lopez is married to Gladys Rivera
and has two twin daughters, Leslian
Marie and Lainey Marie. The Lopez
family resides in Toa Baja, Puerto
Rico.
